Your writing stays yours
Privacy Policy
Quillwise checks and improves writing with local processing and optional AI providers chosen by the user. The developer does not operate a server that receives or stores document text.
Effective July 25, 2026Local grammar checking
Quillwise processes text from editable fields to identify spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity, and concision issues. Standard English checks run locally in the extension with Harper.
The developer does not receive this text. Quillwise does not retain document text or rewrite selections after processing them.
Optional AI features
AI reviews and rewrites are disabled until the user configures a provider or downloads and selects an on-device model.
Chrome built-in AI and downloaded local models process text on the user's device. When a user selects a hosted provider, the text needed for the requested review or rewrite is sent directly over HTTPS to that provider:
- OpenAI
- Anthropic
- Google Gemini
- DeepSeek
- A user-configured OpenAI-compatible HTTPS endpoint
Quillwise does not proxy these requests through a developer-operated service. Each provider processes data under its own terms and privacy policy.
API keys
Provider API keys entered by the user are stored in Chrome's local extension storage. They are read by the extension's background context only to authenticate requests to the selected provider.
Keys are not exposed to website scripts, included in telemetry, or sent to the developer. Chrome extension storage is local browser persistence and is not an operating-system secrets vault.
Local model downloads
Local model downloads happen only after a user requests them. Downloading a model may contact Hugging Face, the WebLLM model catalog, or Chrome's built-in AI service. Model files are stored in browser-managed local caches.
Document text is not sent to model hosts during local inference. Chrome manages the availability, download, and storage of its built-in Gemini Nano model.
Data stored on device
Quillwise may store the following locally:
- Extension preferences and feature settings
- Selected models and provider configuration
- User-supplied provider API keys
- Custom rewrite actions and keyboard shortcuts
- Disabled-site preferences and local request counters
- User-requested local model files
This information is used only to provide the extension's writing assistance features. Users can remove provider configurations and supported model caches from the extension settings, or remove all extension data by uninstalling Quillwise.
Data not collected
Quillwise does not include:
- User accounts or developer-operated cloud storage
- Analytics, telemetry, tracking, or advertising
- Sale of user data
- Collection of browsing history for profiling
- Human review of document text
Data sharing
Quillwise does not sell user data. Data is transferred only when necessary to provide a feature explicitly requested by the user, such as sending selected text and authentication credentials to a configured AI provider.
Quillwise's use and transfer of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is not used for advertising, lending, creditworthiness, profiling, or purposes unrelated to writing assistance.
Security
Connections to hosted providers, custom endpoints, and model hosts use HTTPS. Custom AI endpoints must use HTTPS before Quillwise will request permission to connect to them.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when Quillwise's features or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when a revised policy is published.
